“Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.” Joshua 21:45 ESV
My word for 2023 is truth. My desire for 2023 is to know truth and to speak truth.
Truth about God
Truth about who I am
Truth about what’s going on in my life
Let’s start with Truth About God
I’m not going to even try to list all the truths about God. There are just too many.
But I will share one truth that is often at the forefront of my mind.
The Bible shows us that God can do anything, from saving nations to changing hearts to raising the dead.
But there is one thing God can’t do.
He can’t fail.
Sit on that for a moment. God cannot fail.
No matter how big the plan and how great the promise, God can’t fail.
Joshua proclaimed it to the Israelites: “. . . not one word has failed of all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed.” (Joshua 23:14 ESV)
Solomon spoke it as a benediction: “Blessed be the Lord who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. Not one word has failed of all his good promise, which he spoke by Moses his servant.” (1 Kings 8:56 ESV)
When Jesus died, those who condemned Him to death thought God failed (Mark 15:31-32).
Even Jesus’ followers did not believe the women who saw the angels at the tomb or Mary Magdalene who saw the risen Christ herself (Mark 16:9-14).
And yet. . .
God didn’t fail.
Because He can’t.
The apparent failure wasn’t truth, because Jesus rose from the dead (Matthew 28).
The Truth
If the Bible is true, and the Bible says God never fails, and we see evidence of that in the Bible. . .
. . . then He can’t fail when it comes to my life.
So, when He promises to be with me (Psalm 23), He can’t break His promise.
When He promises to have a good plan for my life (Jeremiah 29:11), He can’t break His promise.
And when He promises eternal life (John 3:16), He can’t break His promise.
And that is the truth about God.

When have you thought God failed you? Looking back, how can you see Him moving in that situation?
