“Sunday is Coming”: It Was Time

“They put him to death by hanging him on a tree, but God raised him on the third day and made him to appear” (Acts 10:39b-40 ESV)

Check out this song: “Sunday Is Coming”

Jesus came to fulfill prophesies foretold about him: Prophesies about him being the Messiah (John 4:25-26) and Christ (Luke 24:25-27). Even prophecies about how he would die (John 18:31-32) and rise again (Acts 10:39-43). But the people missed it.

It wasn’t time.

He turned water into wine (John 2:1-11) and healed the blind (Mark 8:22-26), but each time He told those who witnessed the miracles not to tell anyone.

It wasn’t time.

The people knew Jesus as Joseph’s son (Luke 4:22), and some acknowledged him as Christ (Matthew 16:16), but still they drove him out of town (Luke 4:28-29) and tried to trick him when he spoke (Luke 20:27-40). Demons knew who he was (Luke 4:33-34), but the people were divided in their opinions about him (John 7:40-43).

It wasn’t time.

Pilot couldn’t understand him (John 18:33-19:16), and he was tried, convicted, and crucified on a cross like a criminal (Luke 23:40-41).

It wasn’t time.

Time passed, people feared, and hope dimmed. If Jesus was the fulfillment of the prophecies, then how was it possible for him to die? What about everything he promised? What about everything he claimed to be?

It wasn’t time.

Then Sunday came. He arose: another prophecy fulfilled (Luke 24:45-46). Hope was renewed.

It was time.

Timing was everything.

We don’t always understand God’s timing, but we don’t need to. We may not have hope in this moment, but that doesn’t mean hope isn’t coming. We may not have peace in this moment, but that doesn’t mean peace isn’t coming. We may not have joy in this moment, but that doesn’t mean joy isn’t coming.

Just wait.

It will be time.

How do you see the works of God as perfectly timed in your life?
