“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:2 ESV).
I love Spring: The warmer weather, longer days, and blooming trees. It’s a time of birth, growth, and renewal. So, as we experience the welcomed season of Spring, let us also put Spring into our walks with God.
S – Spend Time in God’s Word.
Spending time reading the Bible is how we know who God is and what His truths are (2 Timothy 3:16; Proverbs 30:5). These truths teach us how to live (Psalm 119:105), and they pop into our minds when we need them (Hebrews 4:12). If we don’t spend time in God’s Word, we won’t know His truths or be able to recall Scripture throughout our day. How amazing it is that we can open a book and read the words of God!
P – Praise Him. . . Even When You Don’t Feel Like It.
Our praise of God doesn’t depend on our current situations and attitudes. We praise Him because He is worthy, regardless of how I’m feeling (Psalm 18:3). We are instructed to praise Him (Psalm 34:1), and God will even help us direct our thoughts toward Him (Psalm 51:15).
R – Remember His Goodness.
Throughout the Old Testament, God called his people to remember – remember how He saved them, remember how He guided them, remember how He provided for them (Deuteronomy 7:18, 8:2; 1 Chronicles 16:12). As Isaiah says, “I will recount the steadfast love of the Lord, the praises of the Lord, according to all that the Lord has granted us, and the great goodness to the house of Israel that he has granted them according to his compassion, according to the abundance of his steadfast love” (Isaiah 63:7 ESV). Remembering God’s goodness in our past gives us hope to cling to His goodness in the present.
I – Involve Yourself in Service.
God has given us talents and abilities to use for His service (1 Corinthians 12:4-5), and He intends for us to use these gifts (Colossians 3:23-24). We may become overwhelmed or discouraged as we serve, but we can find encouragement when our service is based in love for Christ rather than for the approval of man.
N – Notice God’s Presence Throughout Your Day.
It boggles my mind that God loves us enough to be with us all the time. It doesn’t matter where we go or what we’re doing – God is there. In fact, there’s no where we can go that God isn’t there (Psalm 139:7-8). And even better, we are told to not fear, because God is with us: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9 ESV). Wow!
G – Give Thanks.
We are instructed to give thanks (Psalm 30:4) with our whole hearts (Psalm 86:12) because God is due our thanks (Psalm 7:17). So, take the time to thank Him: for His creation, for opportunities and circumstances, for other people, for who He’s made you to be, and for sending His Son for our salvation.
