Let me share with you. . .
As we go through these weeks learning about being love, I’ll share some verses and thoughts from my journal about love. Today’s entry is from February 20, 2025.
Romans 8:31-39 ESV
“What then shall we say to these things?
If God is for us, who can be against us?
He who did not spare His own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.
Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died – more than that, who was raised – who is at the right hand of God, who is indeed interceding for us.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, ‘For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.’
No, in all these things we are more than conquerers through him who loved us.
For I am sure that neither death nor life,
nor angels nor rulers,
nor things present nor things to come,
nor powers,
nor height nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate is from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
According to these verses, what is true about God?
- He is for me
- He gave up His Son
- He justifies
How do these truths change our lives?
God is for me . . . so I don’t need to fear
God gave up His Son for me. . . so i don’t need to worry about being taken care of
God justifies . . . so I don’t need to worry about what others think of my faith and my values
Let’s look closer at the lists Paul uses to emphasize His point that nothing separates us from God’s love.
(Geek moment: The word “separate” used in this passage is translated from the Greek choreo and refers to an internal, rather than external, change of place.)
Tribulation, etc.: Outside influences on our lives
Death nor life: both are inevitable
Angels nor rulers: They have more power and influence than we have
Things present nor things to come: our circumstances
Nothing separates us from God’s love, so we don’t need to fear or worry. Instead we can live, thrive, rest, and serve in His love. Nothing we do (however stupid), no circumstance, and nothing done to us can separate us from His love.
Pause
Reflect
What things can make you feel like you’re separated from God’s love? How will these Scriptural truths about God’s love change your perception of your relationship with Him?
