I Am Sure

“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6 ESV

Let’s take a closer look at this verse and ask ourselves four questions.

1. What does this verse say is true about God?

  • He is faithful (This verse comes from Paul’s letter to the Philippians, and he is sure of what he writes)
  • He began a good work in me (He began, not I began)
  • He will finish the good work (Therefore He will always be with me)
  • Jesus is returning (“at the day of Jesus Christ”)

2. What does this verse say is true about the world?

  •     God does what He desires in His power, not in the world’s power or desires

3. What does this verse say is true about me?

  • I can be sure of God’s faithfulness
  • God is doing a good work in me
  • God will finish the work and will be with me

4. How can these truths change my life today?

I can live in confidence of God’s presence and work in and through me

  • based on my experiences

“This God – his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.” Psalm 18:30 ESV

  • based on the truth of Scripture

“I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word.” Psalm 138:2 ESV

  • confidence that God will stay with me and not abandon me if I upset Him
  • confidence that He’s doing something good in me and through me, even if I don’t know what it is (so i need to keep trusting and following in my faith!)
  • confidence that Jesus is returning!

I can live with hope in the completion of something good.

  • I can enjoy the journey, because it’s my journey with God

“Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.” Jeremiah 32:17 ESV

  • If this good work is from God, then it will be awesome

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21 ESV

  • I get to do a good work with God in His power, not mine

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4 ESV

What truths will you keep at the forefront of your mind this week as you walk with God in His plan for you?

“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6 ESV
