A Parade of Ducks

While on vacation I saw a parade of ducks crossing the street.

The Mama duck brought up the rear of the parade, watching and guiding her ducklings with her “quacks” and her proximity. Although they walked ahead of her she was with them the whole time – watching, guiding, and protecting.

I do this with my students. I guide them while teaching them to make wise decisions, but let them learn by making unwise decisions.

God does this with us.

We see Him leading His people throughout Scripture.

He guided His people through the Red Sea. “You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed; you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode.” Exodus 15:13 ESV

He guided His people by fire and cloud (Exodus 13:17-22)

He guided His people faithfully. “The Lord alone guided him, no foreign god was with him.” Deuteronomy 32:12 ESV

He guided His people, even when they weren’t thrilled about it. “When my soul was embittered, when I was pricked in the heart, I was brutish and ignorant; I was like a beast toward you. Nevertheless, I am continually with you; You hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory.” Psalm 73:21-24 ESV

We feel His guidance when we follow Him.

“If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.” John 12:26 ESV

“For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you must follow in his steps.” 1 Peter 2:21 ESV

Bonus thought: Who is following in my steps? What kind of an example do I set?

He still guides us today through the Holy Spirit.

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” John 16:13 ESV

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” John 14:26 ESV

Ask yourself:

Who or what determines my path? Who or what do I follow? Other people? Social Media?

Do I follow God? Do I wait on Him for direction? Or do I follow worldly pursuits? 1 Peter 2:111 John 2:16)
