“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 ESV
As I look at my prayer list, I see that my friends are carrying some burdens. Some very heavy burdens. And so this week’s blog post is dedicated to you.
To my dear friends,
I am so sorry that you are carrying these burdens. My heart breaks when I think about the load you’re carrying. I’m very aware that I can’t take your burdens away, and I hate that. As my mom used to say, I wish I could wave my magic wand and take them away, but I can’t. What I can do is tell you how special you are to me, and that you are not alone in your burdens.
I’m praying for you. A lot. All the time. Because nothing I can say or do can compare with what happens when God answers prayers. I pray for you that “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7 ESV). And I won’t stop praying, even when your burden may feel a little lighter.
I’m here to listen. . . if you want me to. If you want me to be a distraction, I can do that, too (and quite well). I won’t try to solve any problems for you. I won’t offer unsolicited advice. I will sit with you and drink coffee with you and eat ice cream with you and watch Hallmark movies with you while we wear our comfy sweatpants.
Because you are not a burden to me. You’ve spent so much time listening to me talk about my burdens, and you’ve proven yourself to be a tried and true friend. Please let me be that for you. It’s an honor.
And remember, you are not your burden. It does not define you. It can’t define you, because it’s not who you are. You are God’s child (John 1:12 ESV), and He won’t abandon you (Deuteronomy 31:8 ESV).
I want to leave you with two passages that have helped me a lot: Matthew 5:3-12 ESV and Psalm 23 ESV. I pray that these verses of truth bring you comfort.
Love always, Kim
