Preparing for Easter: If Easter Never Happened

“This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:11-12 ESV

After two years of isolation and one year being sick, I’m looking forward to celebrating Easter with my family for the first time since 2019.

But my being alone on Easter didn’t change the meaning of Easter.

In fact, celebrating Easter without tradition made me focus even more on the reason for the holiday because I took the time to read through the death and resurrection story in each of the gospels:

And as I prepare my heart for this Easter, I find myself considering what life would be like if Easter didn’t happen.

If Easter didn’t happen, then there’s no salvation for us.

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 ESV

If Easter didn’t happen, then we can’t approach God.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 ESV

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by His blood, to be received by faith.” Romans 3:23-25a ESV

If Easter didn’t happen, then we suffer God’s wrath.

“But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have not been justified by His blood, much more shall be we saved by Him from the wrath of God.” Romans 5:8-9 ESV

And this is why it blows my mind that Easter happened, that Christ rose from the dead, that I can approach the throne of God and know He loves me.

Just sit and rest in that for a moment.

And continue resting in that truth as we approach the celebration of this life-altering Easter holiday.

How will you prepare yourself to celebrate Easter in advance of Easter Sunday?

“This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:11-12 ESV
