Psalm 139:13-16

Verse 13: “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.”
God knows us so well because He created/designed us (I just took a career assessment, so I shouldn’t do anything that relies on my creativity). He doesn’t make mistakes in His creation, so if He formed us, it was on purpose.
Scripture tells us that God doesn’t make mistakes:
- Elohim created, and it was good (Genesis 1-2)
- “This God – his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.” (Psalm 18:30 ESV)
- “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28 ESV)
Verse 14: “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
We are to take action, praising God for His creation.
wonderfully/wonderful = distinguished, separated, set apart, marvelous
Verse 15: “My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.”
God knew us even then. There is no where we can hide: “Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord.” (Jeremiah 23:24 ESV)
intricate = complex, complicated (Hebrew translation)
woven = intentional, intricate, time-consuming work with an intended purpose
Verse 16: “Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”
If we were “unformed”, then God formed us. If God formed us, then He has a purpose for us (Ecclesiastes 3).
He saw us. He planned every one of our days, before we were born.
God chose us – that’s evidence of love: “Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all the remnant of the house of Israel, who have been borne by me from before your birth, carried from the womb; even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs will I carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save.” (Isaiah 46:3-4)
So what does this mean for us?
We are not mistakes. Even on days we feel like we’re wandering or merely existing, God created us for His purpose.
If we are different people, and God doesn’t make mistakes, then God created us differently on purpose. And what does that look like as we do life with others? 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 ESV
So we ask ourselves. . . How does all this change me?
