My word for 2024 was love.
Although I didn’t post about it, I spent the year diving into what the Bible says about God’s love for His children and what that means as I love others.
The Backstory
A few years ago I didn’t recognize myself, didn’t recognize who I’d become. I couldn’t understand how the person I remembered being grew into the person in the mirror. I knew something had changed – turns out it was my heart. I didn’t recognize my heart. Because after being in multiple environments in which I was encouraged to climb, climb, and climb some more to reach ultimate success (and I still don’t know what that means), my heart changed. So, I prayed for God to change my heart:
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” ~ Psalm 51:10 ESV
And wouldn’t you know, He did it. He changed my heart. Not all at once, but over time and through different stages.
The Change
God’s changed my heart during these past years and has made me see love in different ways and through different encounters. And now I cry. . . all the time. . . because I see His love for me in so many ways. He’s taught me to love Him more, and to love myself more, and to love others more by looking for their hearts. And He’s taught me to recognize that love is the foundation of everything:
“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.” ~ 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 ESV
Being love is my life’s purpose. And being love is what we’ll explore over the coming months:
- Being love as a family member
- Being love at work, as a colleague, employee, and leader of people
- Being love as a friend
- Being love as a church member
